Snow Reports - New snow throughout Europe |
The snow is set to stay for the next week, with the heaviest falls anticipated in Switzerland and western Austria. France has had a good 10cm in most areas, and the snowfall is forecast to continue all week in both the Alps and the Pyrenees. Many resorts in France opened this week, including Alpe d'Huez Val d?Isere and Tignes. In Austria the huge area of Wilder-Kaiser Brixental has had a
great couple of days, with soft pistes, forty-five lifts open, and a snow depth of 65cm. Italy has had a brilliant weekend with snow falling in excess of 20cm in most resorts. This has allowed 13 more resorts to open including Sauze d'Oulx (40/70cm) and Sestriere (50/50cm). More powder is predicted for the rest of this week. |

Ski News - Beaver Creek: Men?s Downhill |
Daron Rahlves and Bode Miller gave the USA a 1-2 downhill finish in Beaver Creek on Friday for the second year in a row. Rahlves stormed to the 10th victory of his World Cup career pushing last year?s winner and fellow team-mate Miller into second place by 0:00.27 seconds. Bad weather caused numerous problems for organisers who had to shorten the top part of the course and a mixture of wind, fog and snow throughout the day lead to a number of halts in the competition.
Alain Baxter was also on good form, finishing in third place in the warm up NorAm Cup slalom on Thursday, producing his best performance and first podium finish in 2 years.
