All in the name of research, some lucky members of the Iglu team get to jet out to the slopes. They have the tough job of exploring the ski area, discovering the best après ski and sampling the local spirits. Each week we will be reporting back on their findings.

Reporting from the Mountain - Meribel:
?What an amazing time! So much snow for this time of year, with loads of untouched powder off-piste. We also had some clear blue skies, giving you breath-taking views of the surrounding area? - Nick, 12.12.05.
Nick's hot tip for après ski is the "Rond Point", a ski-in ski-out bar located by the Marmotte slope. This is the place that everyone in the resort heads to for après ski; spend your afternoon dancing in your ski boots to the live music with fellow holiday makers and seasonaires. However, be warned, after you finish you still need to get down the mountain! Choose from skiing down or walking down and for the less adventurous there is always the bus or a taxi.

Snow Reports - New snow throughout Europe

The season got off to a fantastic start last week, with the majority of resorts receiving fresh snow, providing the best early season skiing conditions we have had in years. After a weekend of sunshine and milder temperatures the snow is set to return. Andorra, Austria and France are all expecting new snow this week.
Arinsal, Soldeu and Pal all reported 9cm of new snow last week and to add to all the fresh powder on and off the piste, it has started snowing again today. Snowfall is also due today in Austria, getting heavier throughout the week and France is forecast 10cm of new snow tomorrow, improving the already great snow conditions.

Ski News - Val d'Isere: Men's Downhill
Michael WalchhoferWorld Cup champion Michael Walchhofer led an Austrian podium sweep at Saturday's World Cup downhill race in Val d'Isere. Completing a faultless run down the Oreiller-Killy piste, Walchhofer claimed the 7th win of his career and was over a second faster than fellow team-mate and Olympic Champion Fritz Strobl. Hans Grugger came in third to complete the Austrian 1-2-3 win, highlighting the strength of the Austrian racers in the build up to the Olympics. American Bode Miller only managed 7th place, however, this was still enough for him to reclaim his overall lead in the World Cup, with a total of 318 points.
Britain's Olympic hopeful Finlay Mickel finished in 17th place, his second best World Cup downhill placing. Latest Ski News
