Snow
Overview
The conditions remain excellent in the Alps and
North American resorts.
Austria has still got the best skiing
in the Alps, thanks to the heavy snowfall last week. St Anton
was the first resort to
break the 4-metre snow mark. There are also some superb conditions
to be found in Switzerland, especially in Zermatt and Verbier,
while Tignes and Selva offer the best skiing in France and Italy.
The resorts in California can expect fresh snow within the
next few days, while Utah and Western Canada will see a
light dusting closer to the weekend.

Don’t
leave your butts on the slope!
In
an attempt to stop the pollution from the millions of cigarette butts
left on the slopes, the ski
resort of Val Thorens, France, has
started selling disposable ashtrays to its visitors.
 Officials
at the resort say that under one ski lift alone, they find an incredible
30,000 butts at the end of every season, which is enough to
pollute the equivalent of 500 swimming pools. Each butt takes two
years to decompose, and pollutes mountain streams when spring sets
in.
