Sunny skiing up to 1825m with an over 1000m vertical drop make Hopfgarten one of the great Austrian resorts. Hopfgarten is one of the many resorts, along with Soll, Itter, Scheffau and Kelchsau, which make up Austria’s second biggest ski area: the Ski Welt. With over 250km of linked pistes it really is a comprehensive ski area- everything is covered for all levels of skier and snowboarder. Beginners, however, will probably feel most at home in the charming little village of Hopfgarten. The 1850m Hohe Salve mountain has some very convenient nursery slopes right by the village(although these are first to go if the snow is bad) and there are also longer and very enjoyable blues further up the mountain. Intermediates can cruise the whole Ski Welt from Hopfgarten and enjoy some of the best intermediate terrain in the world. Scheffau, Itter and Brixen are particularly good for experts. There are also some testing blacks reachable from the resort. The off-Piste is renowned in the Ski Welt and a local guide will help you make the most of it. Snowboarders are well catered for with a decent fun park and half pipe not too far from the summit of Hohe Salve. Hopfgarten also plays host to some of the most fantastic cross-country trails in the whole Ski Welt.
There are plenty of other things to do in Hopfgarten. The village has a good atmosphere and there is a modern sports centre and cinema. The apres ski is typically Austrian with stein after stein of the local brew being the usual fare but there aren’t that many bars so excursions to nearby Soll may be in order for some.

"Just home from Christmas in Val d'Isere... this was the best ski holiday I have ever been on. Val is stunning, the hotel fabulous, staff sensational and skiing out of this world. We booked through Iglu. They were fantastic. Peter had great ski knowledge, offered advice and went the extra mile. " - Pamela (Dec 2015)
