Galtür is a pretty little village nestling deep in the heart of the beautiful Paznaun valley. With its own 40km ski area and linked to the magnificent Ischgl region by a frequent bus service (free with the whole area lift pass), it is ideal for beginners and guests who enjoy superbly groomed and uncrowded slopes.

Après Ski
Ischgl has some of the best après ski in the Alps. There are a wide range of bars and nightclubs (many are part of resort hotels) as well as special events throughout the season. The Trofan Alms has been named the #1 Aprés ski bar in the world on several occasions and it's neighbour, The Schatzi Bar, is famous for it's bar tops dancers in their own very short version of the traditional Dirndl. Austria's Most Glamourous Resort 26/11/2012

Ischgl is one of the resorts you really must visit once in your life. The village itself is really pretty. It's traditional Austrian style, and while it doesn't look purpose built, there is some excellent planning lying beneath - literally. There is a network of underground moving walkways which help move you around... it's brilliant! It's scenic, there's easy access to off piste skiing and wonderful piste skiing over into Switzerland. The lift infrastructure is one of the best in Europe — fast, well planned and very efficient. On mountain dining looks like it's going to cost you the earth, with nice restaurants featuring linen table cloths, excellent waiter service and fantastic food, but it's actually quite reasonable. Try the local speciality desert, Kaiserschmarrn! After an amazing day on the slopes, be ready for apres ski as only the Austrians do it. Tofana Alm and Schatzi are two of the best bars for apres, with cheerful, rowdy crowds of some of the best-looking people in the Alps!

End of Season Ischgl 29/04/2013

Two of us travelled to Ischgl with Monarch Airlines, having booked with Iglu. The flight was great - despite half the aircraft being empty and no one using the extended leg room seats (had to pay extra if you wanted these...) but i am now converted to short-hop flights and transfers, we left at midday and were in resort by 5pm local. This made for feeling much fresher and less fatigued by the faff of travel. The Rep was very helpful - until she disappeared (seemingly) for a few days after we first were in resort. We could buy a discounted ski pass and sort out hire on the coach wich was ideal. WE also opted to pay an additional 2.50Euro to access the pool in town for free - the rep had not come across this at all through the entire season but checked it out and made it happen for us. Ideal, as we enjoyed a nice swim and sauna (extra 6.20Euro) most evenings. this is a downside for the Chalet not having their own sauna, but the Silvretta Centre did the trick. The resort town is HILLY so be fit to not feel zonked just walking to the Chalet and shops, the shops are varied - probably better than in the duty free zone over the border (although worth a visit for alcohol) - and there are plenty of nice places to wander around. The town feels wealthy but not off putting. The apres was quiet-ish due to the end of season but we had a good few nights out!!! (they do smoke in clubs tho!) The chalet was everything you'd need exept for the lounge, it is a HUGE shame but we fortunately had a v easy going group of people and enojyed our chalet atmosphere regardless; but yes this point is v off putting despite me initially feeling as though it wouldnt matter. Chalet hosts were wonderful if not forgetful, if you are expecting T's crossed and I's dotted you may get some missing but overall they were lovely and made us feel comfortable. We had room 7 and it was fab - great balcony with the late sun, amazing views and generally a good little room. TV and very strong shower (happy with that). Food was plentiful as was the booze, in general i really enjoyed our chalet service. small walk/lift/travelator to the gondola and then ski-tastic, we had very warm weather but still enough snow to enjoy things and also had an epic tan! Then we had a huge flurry before our last day (bad-ish vis) but so fab! Recommend for March but would probably be a pain if very busy in the season. Summary - quick flight and transfer, good reps, cosy chalet, nice room, great shopping, lovely runs (not overly challenging for good/advanced skiers) and fun resort (save some £££ if you want to shop!) :)

Lovely ischgl 30/04/2013

We went to Ischgl for Easter 2013, staying at Chalet Abendrot. I was concerned at Ischgl's reputation for raucous nightlife but need not have been. Though the Abendrot is within easy walking distance of both main lifts, it's in a quiet little area and we didn't notice any late night noise. Dinners were excellent, breakfasts slightly less impressive. Our room was excellent, easily large enough for my wife and I and our 12 year old. Our friends rooms' were also spacious. The sauna and steam room were very welcome at te end of the day and hardly used. The skiing was near perfect. It all fans out from Idalp at 2300 so it's all high altitude skiing. Lots of the lifts go up to 2700 metres or more so there was good snow on perfectly maintained pistes everywhere and there was no queuing either. The lift system is fantastic with 6 and 8 man chairs seemingly the norm. On mountain restaurants were also excellent , we particularly liked eating outside at Bodenalpe. Toilets were immaculate. A must do run is red 80 down into Samnaun, stopping off at the Schmugglers. Red 7 is also great. Black 14a is steep but never the 70 percent gradient claimed. It gets lots of afternoon sun so best to do it late morning before it gets too heavy. Black 14b stays in good condition later into the afternoon. Having said the above there are loads of great pistes of all difficulties. Probably not the best place for beginners or timid intermediates because the only runs back to resort are red. Having said that you can take the gondola down from Idalp, lots of people do. We'll be going back!
