Ski Holidays to St Johann in Tirol, Austria

St. Johann is a small, picturesque town nestling between the towering Kitzbüheler Horn and the majestic Wilder Kaiser mountains. There's a vibrant international feel here, yet the resort retains all the charm of a traditional Tirolean village with its 'picture postcard' centre.

Skiing in St Johann

With many north-facing slopes, the resort boasts a good snow record and is an excellent choice for groups of mixed ability skiers. The area pass ('Schneewinkel') opens up a wealth of other possibilities, encompassing the ski areas of 10 resorts, all linked by local bus services. The Steinplatte area even allows you to ski/board into Germany.

The traffic-free centre adds to the attractive, traditional village atmosphere. Away from the ski slopes there are numerous activities including tobogganing, ice skating, hot air ballooning, horse-drawn sleigh rides, as well as the usual mix of indoor activities including swimming.

St Johann in Tyrol-Oberndorf has some of the best snow making facilities in Tyrol with around 80% of the pistes fitted with snow cannons. Which with added natural snowfall guarantees for skiing throughout the course of the winter season.

Apres-ski, restaurants and other activities in St Johann

There are a number of places that guests can enjoy apres-ski in St Johann village. With around 50 restaurants in resort guests can have their choice of cusine from cafes to fine dining. Most restaurants cater for all needs with both local mountain recipes or international dishes which everyone can enjoy. The town is perfect for relaxing after the long day hitting the slopes and guests can enjoy a coffee and cake in one of the cafes or cozy up next to a warm fire in the evening with a nice beverage. In terms of bars the town is very limited which means that for those looking for a much more lively apres-ski we would suggest heading further out to surrounding towns. However,  also the resort does cater more for fmailies and relaxation there are a few apres-ski bars in the village that guests can enjoy, we suggest:

Ski schools: Ski School St. Johann has an excellent team of instructors, for all levels and ages.

Panoramabad': After a day's skiing the whole family can enjoy the fun of the 'Panoramabad' leisure centre.

Cross Country Skiing:

St. Johann is a great base from which to enjoy cross-country skiing. Well laid out groomed trails head out in both directions from town. Nearby there are 75km (29 miles) of cross-country trails to follow - taking you through the valley floor towards Kitzbühel or towards Kirchdorf and Waidring.

This sport is a perfect way to enjoy the wonderful scenery as you glide along, admiring the majestic 'Wilder Kaiser' mountains, or the famous 'Kitzbühelerhorn'. Equipment can be hired in town and, for those new to the sport, the local ski schools offer cross-country skiing lessons.

Transfer time in St Johann

The closest airport to resort is Salzburg which is around 60 km away. Other airports also accessible via bus transfer or short car journey are Innsbruck and Munich which are around a two hours driving distance.
