Top 5 Royal Resorts

Every year the Royals jet set to the slopes in glamorous ski resorts. Their holidays are often heavily publicised in the press for decades from their latest ski gear to family photographs in upmarket playground of the 3 Valleys to the swanky Swiss ski resorts.

Ski holidays are the perfect time to feel like royalty. Here are our top 5 resorts that are fit for any Queen or King.

1. Klosters, Switzerland

Klosters has acquired international status from the presence of Royals. This picturesque luxury Swiss resort is said to be King Charles’ resort of choice and where Prince Harry and William often join him on their ski holidays together. Two cable cars in Klosters are even named after him! The Royal Family have a long history at Klosters and would be the most likely destination to bump into them on a chairlift. If you want to stay where the Royal Family have stayed, King Charles favours the 5* Walserhof hotel.

2. Courchevel, France

Situated in one of the world’s premier ski areas it is no surprise that the Royal Family love it in Courchevel and the rest of the Three Valleys. The resort of 1850 is the most luxe and elite, where the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge and Prince George and Princess Charlotte spent their week holiday back in 2016; their first ski holiday as a family of four. It has an abundance of Michelin-starred restaurants such as the Pierre Gagnaire pour Les Airelles, five star hotels and designer shops like Valentino add a glamorous twist to a ski resort. But its own airstrip on the slopes sees many helicopters and private jets land and depart, for royals it makes for a secluded and private getaway.

3. Verbier, Switzerland

Verbier is very popular amongst the royals. A well-loved location for the Beatrice’s family and where Prince William went for his lads trip in 2017 where he was spotted cutting some shapes in one of its clubs. It is where Prince Harry was rumoured to have his stag do before he married Megan Markle. It’s a party resort with world class skiing and private chalets to cater for the super-rich; Andrew had a £13m chalet here! Arguably not as family-friendly and romantic as Klosters, but it is also where Princess Eugenie met her husband Jack Brooksbank in 2010. Even the Belgian and Denmark royal families have been seen spending their ski holidays here. It comes as no surprise, given the 400km of runs the Four Valleys ski area has to offer.

4. Lech, Austria

Lech resort is where Prince William and Harry had their very first ski trip with their mother Princess Diana who carried on the ski tradition in the royal family. The resort is renowned for its 5* hotels, exclusive bars and fancy restaurants and is often seen as the Courchevel of Austria. Being linked to neighbouring resorts Zürs , St Chrisoph, St Anton and Stuben it is becoming one of the world’s greatest ski destinations. Lech was one of Princess Diana's favourite ski resorts, and it is also loved by Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands who holiday here most years.

5. Villars, Switzerland

Villars is one of the Tindall’s favourite resorts and known as the classiest places to go skiing. Mike Tindall even expressed his love for the resort in 2015 when he competed in ITV’s ski TV programme, The Jump. It seems to be the perfect location for those wanting a quiet holiday in a small resort where there aren’t crowds or queues at restaurants and lifts. It’s also a popular and regular destination for the Denmark royal family, probably due to the fact it’s a lot more low-key than its neghbouring resort, Verbier, and best suited for families.
