The Portes du Soleil ski area is truly vast with over 212 lifts, and over 60 mountain restaurants to choose from. The area connects the ski resorts of Abondance, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Champery and Torgan.
 

Beginners on ski holidays in Avoriaz are well catered for, with the area offering easily accessible runs, to help gradual progression. Ski holidays in Avoriaz are heaven for intermediates, to best explore the area bringing your passport! There are huge opportunities to criss-cross the French/Swiss border and many long cruising runs. The infamous “Wall” at the top of the Chavanette drag lift is one of the world’s toughest black runs, boasting waist high moguls across a vertical drop of over 300 metres, which is certainly the highlight for advanced skiers on ski holidays in Avoriaz. Alternatively, the World Cup downhill piste and the endless off piste opportunities make a great date for thrill-seekers. Avoriaz is reknowned as a mecca for snowboarders, providing several superb snowboard parks, and has challenges for all levels of rider.

Avoriaz is a great resort for skiers and boarders of all levels. If its long smooth runs, challenging bumpy blacks, the boardparks or the off piste on the Swiss side of the area, Avoriaz offers it all. Situated in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area, Avoriaz has the best access to the other resorts that share the domain. The resort itself sits on a plateau high above the neighbouring town of Morzine. The phrase ski from your door applies to every hotel and apartment. The buildings are connected by a series of elevators and walkways, to make access to all areas as easy as possible. Bars and restaurants are plentiful, and offer a wide range of menus and prices. Nightclubs tend to be empty most evenings, maybe because of the high drink and entrance prices. Shopping is limited but the nearby town of Morzine offers a wide range of supermarkets, sportshops and boutiques.

"Avoriaz is a wonderfully catered for resort. It is great for beginers as it has lots of long and relaxing beginners runs. The resort also has some great runs for the slightly more capable skiers, shorter,steeper, longer and faster... On top of this it boasts the famous 'Wall' slope, with huge moguls and an almost 300m vertical drop. The ski and snow parks in the resort a great fun for all the family, with jumps, games and lifts. Life in the resort is also quite relaxed and friendly. There are a few lovley bakerys for fresh bread and croissants in the morning and some small and cosy cafes/bistros for afternoon hot chocolates and evening coffees. There are no roads in the resort which means skiing from your door is possible. The lovley mode of transport in and around the resort are horse drawn carridges fit with sleigh bells. A highlight of Avoriaz is the chance to ski into Switzerland and enjoy the lovley woodland runs."
