Montalbert with its wooden and stone chalets offers plenty of walking opportunities in the woodland as well all the advantages of the vaste ski region of La Plagne with its 210 km of pistes. Montalbert - quaint little resort, full of character 16/01/2013

Been ski-ing to Montalbert 4 times having stayed at a chalet in Mont Villiers just a short drive away (Chalet Motdit owned by the lovely English lady Annette). Montalbert has a range of shops including a supermarket, restaurants, cafes, bars and of course shops that sell/rent ski equipment. There is an excellent ski school and also a free button lift for those beginners who just want to practice on a short slope. The main lift links to La Plagne and the Paradiski area which is absolutely amazing and you can ski for a week and still find a track/slope that you hadn't skied before. I've been ski-ing there for 4 years and am still finding a new slope to test each year. Christmastime in Montalbert is pretty amazing with the ski school instructors ski-ing down the mountain in a torch-light parade. Watching this whilst sipping a heart-warming cup of mulled wine in one hand and eating a chocolate waffle in the other is fab and the atmosphere is brilliant. There are 3 lift passes to choose from. If you want to stay local to Montalbert then there is a pass for that. The next is Montalbert and La Plagne and the final one includes Les Arcs and with a 6-day pass that covers the whole area you get to try out a ski resort in another area (I always go to the 3-Valleys). The village of Montalbert is quaint and rustic and full of French charm. I would recommend Montalbert for any level of skier because it is so easy to link to the Paradiski area. However, a word of warning. If you find yourself over at La Plagne late in the afternoon, make sure you leave enough time to ski back to Montalbert before all the lifts close down at 4.30 otherwise it is a very long drive/expensive taxi ride back to Montalbert (which unfortunately did happen to a family from Scotland a couple of years back).
