"WOW ! The 3 valleys are huge! VT is big enough on its own, if you were a beginner, but the 3V area is massive. You'll never be stuck for new slopes. It is however quite expensive to drink/eat/live so take plenty of cash."

"I worked here during the 2008/2009 season. I'd rate myself as an advanced skier, as I am an instructor. The skiing: 7/10. VT has a variety of runs to cater for all abilities. And the snow usually holds well due to the high altitude of the resort. For some truly epic runs go into the Orelle valley next door which has un-crowded slopes, beautiful views, astonishing challenging terrain and you can ride one of the highest chairlifts in Europe! Resort: 6/10 Compared to its 3 valleys sisters, Meribel and Courchevel, VT is the ugly duckling. However, it does host a good variety of restaurants and bars - the latter of which will keep you going way into the early hours. Suitability: This is not really a resort for young families. You won't find many French families here, as they know it really is an Ibiza on snow. It is suited to young groups, 18-30 types who want to ski hard and party hard... Overall 6/10"

Ski Holidays in Val Thorens, France

Val Thorens is compact and purpose-built and is Europe's highest village. Set in a huge ski bowl, with runs fanning out in all directions, providing excellent snow conditions throughout the season. Ski down the valley to Les Menuires and the wonderful La Masse area and then pop over to nearby Courchevel and Meribel on the massive 3 Valleys circuit. This is some of the most amazing skiing in the world. The resort has been cleverly planned, creating a village feel around a compact centre and offering doorstep skiing wherever you stay.

The apres ski is lively and varied, with the popular bars and restaurants close to the centre of the resort, along with 3 late night discos. There is also a sports centre featuring a swimming pool and squash courts. Evening skidoo rides are ever popular and are highly recommended by all those who have enjoyed a Val Thorens skiing holiday. For a more relaxing evening, check out the cinema, which has many films in English.

Skiing in Val Thorens

The range of slopes in Val Thorens skiing area is amongst the best in the world, with the testing mogul fields of the Cime de Caron and La Masse, further down the valley, and endless off piste opportunities on the Chaviere or Peclet glaciers for advanced adventurers. The virtually inexhaustible range of red and blue pistes provides the intermediate skier with endless opportunities during their Val Thorens skiing holiday. The long sweeping blues such as Genepi, and the more challenging reds, including the long descent down to the Maurienne valley, added to the vast terrain of the rest of the Trois Vallees, more than satisfies even the most mileage-hungry of skiers during their ski holiday. Val Thorens France has many runs back to resort, which is where the wide open gentle blue slopes favoured by the novice skiers and boarders are found.
