Overall

We spent what turned out to be the penultimate week of the season in Hinterglemm, and despite the disappearing snow, still had a great time. The resort staff had done a great job of maintaining the pistes all season, so when we arrived we were faced with the slightly unusual sight of white runs snaking down the hill through green fields, but there was still plenty of snow at the top of the mountains and it was only on some of the runs down to the resort where the snow was rather patchy. Our hotel was in a great location, opposite the Reiterkogel gondola, and it was possible to ski to within 100m of the door until the rain washed away the last bit of snow midway through the week. The ski bus stop down to Saalbach and the Schattberg express was about a ten minute walk. The hotel itself was fairly basic but clean and comfortable, with friendly staff who let us have access to free wifi in the restaurant and lobby area which was a bonus. The skiing was better than expected given the time in the season, many of the runs were practically deserted so it was easy to rack up the mileage. There are plenty of mountain restaurants and umbrella bars with home-cooked mountain food and a much better atmosphere than you'll get in most other places, so for a great holiday, it has all the ingredients and we'll definitely be back!

An excellent, but basic hotel - 06/04/2015
Overall

This was the first time I had taken all my family on a skiing trip. I took some time to check the many reviews for this hotel and decided it would be worth a bit of a punt. I had been worried by comments about noisy rooms, small showers, poor food. I should not have been. Our experience as a family with three very large teenage boys was just about perfect. Our two adjoining rooms were plenty large enough for their messiness and for all our clothes to dry out in time for the following day. Shower cubicles are not massive, but never caused any problems. Rooms were cleaned every day, towels changed daily. Enough sockets for all to charge phones and stuff. Not the most modern place I've ever stayed, but well furnished with comfy beds, chairs and lots of storage space. Other reviewers have commented about the lack of a common room for guests to relax and mingle in the evenings. This is true, but our rooms were large enough for us all to gather in the evenings for cards/beer/chat. Our rooms were on the third floor - there is no lift, but really? People complaining about walking up three storeys on a skiing holiday? My wife is having a hip replacement op in August and she managed just fine. Meals were simple and occasionally quirky but, with some qualms about red cabbage (delicious, I thought), wolfed down by all of us. Breakfast was a little repetitive - cold meats, cheese, bread rolls, cereals etc, but certainly adequate - and you can eat as much as you want. My only little niggle about breakfast was that it begins at 08:00 - I am used to getting up early to make the most of lift availability. However, on this occasion, with teenagers in tow, 8 o'clock was plenty early! The family that runs the place are friendly and helpful. They all get involved in serving meals, reception duties etc; even granny, who came around to ask us how we were all doing and if there was anything we needed. In terms of location, the Reisinger could not really be better - smack in between the U-bahn gondola and the Bergfried t-bar and directly across the road from the Reiterkogel gondola. Nothing more than about 150m away. Free ski bus stop is just 100m down the road. In summary; if you are primarily interested in skiing on your holiday, this place is a perfectly good choice. Hope this helps, Dave P
