Snow Conditions in Italy (02 March 2015)
A warmer climate is working its way across Europe at the moment and some of the lower resorts in western Italy are starting to see heavy slopes on their resort runs. High altitude slopes are still looking good however after the fresh snowfall the country saw last week.
One of our featured resorts to see some fresh snow was La Thuile (45/150cm) with around 5cm falling on Monday 2nd March. It’s by no means a huge amount but fresh snow is always welcomed. The off piste is still quite varied but the pistes have been refreshed, to go alongside all 37 lifts that were turning. The warmer climate means that lower runs are getting heavier in the afternoon but high altitude runs are looking good, especially with the latest fall and the climate remains quite cold high up.
We have had reports of high winds, particularly in Courmayeur (65/165cm), which caused the majority of the lifts to close, leaving eight turning for the day.
The current cloudy spell is expected to remain until midweek, with some light snow possible, but then it should start to brighten up once again.
