Chalet Castor, Les Coches
Chalet Castor has now been in our catered chalet programme for five winter ski seasons, and it proved to be very popular. Castor is just five years old, situated right beside Chalet Renard, just a short stroll from the centre of the attractive village of Les Coches. It has been built in the traditional Savoyard style, with lots of exposed beams and generous use of wood and stone, which has made it a most attractive building. There are wonderful views towards Mont Blanc from the rear of the chalet and it is in a perfect location, as you can ski or board from and to the door (snow conditions permitting).
The chalet is spacious, light and airy. There are 5 bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, a large lounge / dining room with a lovely, open fire in the corner. There are sliding doors onto a large south facing terrace.
There is a sauna on the ground loor of Chalet Renard (next door), which guests from Castor & Renard share.
Note: Chalet Castor is located right next door to Chalet Renard so together they could be used for a group of 20 - 21 people.
Skiing from the Chalet
In the morning, you can ski or board virtually from the door (snow conditions permitting) directly to the high speed Plan Bois chairlift in the heart of Les Coches, it is just 300 metres from the chalet. Alternatively you can carry on skiing down to the express chairlift from Montchavin.
The Les Coches piste that runs past the chalet was until recently, graded blue. It has now been reclassified as a red run, but anybody who has skied or boarded for a couple of weeks should be able to get to the first lift without any trouble. A short ski from the top of the Plan Bois chairlift will take you to the Vanoise Express cable car linking La Plagne with Les Arcs. Alternatively two more short chairlifts take you to the Belle Plagne bowl and the rest of the La Plagne skiing.
At the end of the day, it is possible to ski back to the chalet door via a very attractive piste through trees.
