Lindsey Vonn clinches title

Date Posted: 13th Mar 2008
Category:  Freestyle World Cup
US skier Lindsey Vonn has clinched the FIS World Cup downhill title following the finals in Bormio, Italy, this Wednesday March 12th.

Now the second woman to be awarded the title, Vonn collected her crystal globe following the cancellation of the downhill event.

While those on European ski holidays enjoyed improved snow conditions this week, Vonn has been challenging fellow competitors Nicole Hosp and Maria Riesch in the overall standings.

"Since I saw the crystal globe held by Picabo Street in the mid-1990s when she was on an exhibition tour in our area, I have been dreaming of it. I'm very proud to have accomplished this exciting performance," Vonn enthused following her victory.

The news comes after fellow US skier Bode Miller finished second in the downhill behind Werner Heel of Italy recently.

Both Miller and Vonn are now favourites to take the title for the overall World Cup in men's and women's categories.
