Britons who are planning to drive abroad on hire a car on their
family ski holidays this winter have been urged to give their attention to new road rules in France that come into force next month.
Tignes Ski News reports that from July 1st 2008, French law states that all motorised vehicles must carry warning triangles and high-visibility security vests.
The changes are aimed at making roads safer for all motorists on the occasions that drivers need to stop in emergencies or that they breakdown.
The law applies to UK citizens driving in France in cars registered to the UK or hire cars.
Failure to comply with the new law could earn drivers a fine of €135. Motorbikers however, remain unaffected by the changes in law.
Drivers will need to put on the vests before they vacate their vehicle during a breakdown. They will then be required to place the warning triangle on their car and put on hazard lights.
