Whistler Blackcomb ski resort will soon be powered by renewable energy.
Work has already started on the green energy system, which is capable of powering all of the resort's lifts, restaurants and snowguns, the Ski Club of Great Britain reports.
Arthur DeJong, Whistler Blackcomb's mountain planning and environmental resource manager, said: "This project marks a new chapter in Whistler Blackcomb's history book and will become the bedrock of our enactment on climate change."
The Fitzsimmons Creek Hydro Project is another step towards the resort achieving a "zero" carbon footprint within its operating area, he explained.
It is estimated that the new system will produce 33.5 gigawatt hours of hydro electricity annually.
In related news, Whistler's new peak to peak gondola is set to open to the public on December 12th.
According to the resort's chief operating officer Dave Brownlie, the new Peak 2 Peak Gondola links more than 8,000 acres of skiing terrain.
