Snow, Snow, Snow... Merry Christmas

Date Posted: 24th Dec 2012
Category:  Snow News

Christmas really has come early in the Alps. We've had two weeks of pretty solid snowfall and though the sun has come out today, it's going to be a White Christmas tomorrow with most resorts in the Alps expecting up to 15cm of snow!

Only Alaska is set for more snow then the French Alps over the next five days, and with a mixture of snowfall, some clear days and super cold temperatures Christmas skiing is truly at its best this week.

France is having one of the best starts to a season in years, according to the Tavern in Meribel there is already more snow than the whole of the 2010/11 season. Alpe d'Huez is having the most incredible start to a season, regularly boasting more snow than anywhere else — with the resort usually boasting 300 days a year of sunshine the locals must be a little confused right now!

Switzerland's chocolate box charm will be looking even more stunning with this weeks snowfall — up to half a metre is forecast including snow on Christmas day. If that isn't good enough news for you, then how about this. Rob Sawyer, owner of the world famous Farinet après ski bar, has teamed up with Heston Blumenthal, Lawrence Dallaglio, Carl Fogerty and James Blunt to open an affordable mountain restaurant in Verbier. La Vache (the cow) is located at the top of the James Blunt chairlift — who'd have thought — and offers main courses from £10.
