Snow Springs On To The Menu

Category:  Snow News

Spring officially arrives in the middle of this week and though people often confuse spring snow with the end of April slush, it's anything but. This weekend saw around half a metre of fresh snow hitting the Alps, with France and Italy making the most of the dump, and the next couple of days see another 20cm or so of snow.

France has been filled with two certainties this winter — good snowfall and cheese eating locals — so it's no surprise that this week sees up to 30cm of fresh snow falling by Wednesday. Following on from up to 50cm over the weekend, the slopes are looking good.

  • Avoriaz 28cm
  • Alpe d'Huez 21cm
  • Courchevel 18cm
  • Les Deux Alpes 21cm
  • Les Gets 28cm
  • Meribel 18cm
  • Morzine 29cm
  • Tignes 13cm
  • Val d'Isere 12cm
  • Val Thorens 17cm

Austria's schnitzel-loving mountain restaurants will be happy this week, with plenty of snow over the next few days, people will no doubt be enjoying long lunches. Come Wednesday the snow slows down, the sun comes out and it's bluebird powder days on the menu.

  • Alpbach 23cm
  • Ischgl 30cm
  • Kaprun 23cm
  • Kuhtai 29cm
  • Lech 28cm
  • Obergurgl 28cm
  • Serfaus 36cm
  • Solden 24cm
  • Soll 22cm
  • S. Anton 28cm

Switzerland's snow has proven to be as efficient as their transport system this season. Fresh snow virtually every week, followed by sunshine to enjoy the pristine slopes. With rotating restaurants offering amazing panoramic views and incredibly pristine pistes this week, the chocolate box charm of Saas Fee and Wengen are sure to be the dish of the day.

  • Champery 25cm
  • Davos 24cm
  • Flims Laax 23cm
  • Grindelwald 24cm
  • Klosters 24cm
  • Saas Fee 18cm
  • St. Moritz 23cm
  • Verbier 18cm
  • Wengen 23cm
  • Zermatt 16cm

Italy's pasta-fuelled pistes are also set for some more snow. Following a weekend of 30-50cm of fresh powder, the Dolomites and Milky Way are both looking at a good 15-30cm of snow over the next three days, followed by some glorious sunshine.

  • Arabba 31cm
  • Bardonecchia 20cm
  • Cervinia 17cm
  • Cortina 31cm
  • La Thuile 21cm
  • Livigno 31cm
  • Kronplatz 30cm
  • Sauze d'Oulx 15cm
  • Selva 25cm
  • Sestriere 17cm

This week's forecast offers the perfect combination of snowy days for long lunches in warm mountain restaurants and sunny days for... long lunches on sun-blushed terraces — plus lots of fresh powder to burn of all that cheese.
