Epic Easter On The Cards

Date Posted: 25th Mar 2013
Category:  Snow News

As Easter weekend approaches the epic conditions across the Alps continue to improve. It's the last week in March and the already amazing snow is getting better — yes better!

I may be the snowman, but even I can't remember a winter where the slopes were in such great shape for an entire season and where epic conditions only seem to get better and better as spring approaches. With all this snow, the seasonal Easter egg hunt on Sunday may require a shovel, probe and transceiver.

France is, well, covered in snow. Not just a little bit of snow, but huge amounts of the stuff. With the Easter Bunny due to bring clouds filled with fluffy white powder, as opposed to baskets of chocolate eggs, the holiday skiing is going to be fantastic.

Switzerland is again boasting incredible conditions over the school holidays. Many resorts can still boast a base of 2m — good luck finding your Easter eggs in that — and with up to 30cm forecast by the weekend, it's only going to get better.

Italy will be having a Good Friday in more than one sense as around 15cm of snow is forecast in one day alone. With a dusting of snow all week, mixed with sunshine, Friday will be a good day to re-charge your batteries with a few hot-crossed buns, before partaking in an epic powder day on Saturday.

Austria is often seen as the lower of Europe's top skiing destinations and therefore people expect less snow at this time of year. Well, you'd be pretty mistaken to think that, especially this year. The next few days up to 24cm of snow is forecast and conditions for Easter weekend are looking eggceptional.

  • Fiss 24cm

  • Lech 11cm
  • Mayrhofen 6cm
  • Obergurgl 16cm

The Alps are looking amazing, the pistes perfect, the backcounty brilliant and all in time for the holiday period. Now, where did I put my skies under all this snow?
