Dalcin delight in Val d'Isere

Date Posted: 22nd Jan 2007
Category:  European Events
Pierre-Emmanuel Dalcin won the men's Word Cup downhill in Val d'Isere on Saturday, to become the first Frenchman to win at the famous venue since 1995.

It was doubly sweet for Dalcin who celebrated his first ever World Cup win, improving on his previous best effort of second in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen super-G in 2004.

The 29-year-old took advantage of favourable conditions in Val d'Isere early on to post a time of one minute 56.37 seconds.

Those on a ski holiday in Val d'Isere were treated to some dramatic action, as the Oreiller-Killy piste became increasingly difficult to negotiate as the event wore on.

This was demonstrated when the 2005 World Cup winner, American Bode Miller, crashed out and Austria's Michael Walchhofer failed to make the top 20.

Erik Guay, from Canada, came second in a time of one minute 56.63 seconds, with his fellow countryman, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, finishing third, just 0.06 seconds behind.
