Double Swiss snowboarding victory

Swiss snowboarder Roland Haldi secured his first ever World Cup victory in Bardonecchia, Italy, at the weekend.

The 28-year-old, competing in the third Parallel Giant Slalom of the snowboard FIS World Cup, claimed first place by just 0.07 seconds from French rival Nicholas Huet.

Those enjoying their ski holiday in Bardonecchia saw Swiss snowboarders dominate the event, with Heinz Inniger and Simon Schoch, the current World Cup leader, coming third and fourth respectively.

A triumphant Haldi said: "After 14 years of competing in snowboard races I finally have my first World Cup triumph under my belt.

"During the whole season, I was feeling well and I knew that I would make it sometime."

And there was more reason for Switzerland fans to celebrate while on their ski holiday in Bardonecchia, when Fraenzi Kohli won the women's event, the second World Cup win of her career.

Kohli, who edged out the existing world champion Heidi Neururer from Austria, said her latest triumph felt "more intense" than her previous win in Soelden.
