This New Year's Eve there is a "trend" towards celebration on the ski slopes, it has been revealed.
According to Earthtimes, Professor Peter Voigt from the tourism faculty at Munich Polytechnic believes that people are shunning the bright lights for a more relaxed holiday.
Klaus Stephan from the Austrian tourist office in Frankfurt noted that Austria is great for
family ski holidays and that New Year's Eve marks the peak of the Austrian ski season.
"It's quieter in the family oriented ski areas such as the Dachstein-Tauern region. But Lienz in east Tyrol and Ramsau in the state of Styria are also quiet. You have got snow all around you and you can look down at the fireworks in the valley," Mr Stephan commented.
Switzerland was also listed as a possible new year's destination.
Post Office recently reported that 2.4 million Brits intend to spend New Year's Eve overseas.
