Record snowfall in Europe

European ski resorts have experienced their biggest November snowfall in over a decade.

Resorts in France and Switzerland are enjoying exceptional conditions for this time of year, with up to 60 centimetres of snow falling in some areas, the Times reports.

The excellent conditions are expected to boost the number of people hitting the slopes this winter.

Christian Rochette, the director of Ski France International, commented: "We've got excellent conditions for this time of year and very cold temperatures, which means we can use the snow cannons to make artificial snow as well."

Reservations for some resorts are up by as much as 20 per cent this year he claimed, adding that despite the credit crunch, holidaymakers are not willing to sacrifice their hard-earned winter holidays.

"They want to get away from all this talk of a crisis," he continued.

A number of ski resorts have opened early this year, including Whistler and Val Thorens.
