Although many people see him as 2010's answer to Eddie the Eagle, Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong insists he is not going to the Winter Olympics to become a gimmick.
The 35-year-old has become the first skier from Ghana to qualify for the Winter Olympics and is looking forward to showing his skills on the
Whistler course in Vancouver.
Nkrumah-Acheampong, who likes to be referred to as 'Snow Leopard' and learnt how to ski on the artificial slope at Milton Keynes, has some experience of competing on the big stage as he raced at the world championships last year in
Val D'Isere.
And despite Nkrumah-Acheampong admitting the chances of him gaining a medal are on the slim side in Canada, he still intends to give it his all, rather than cashing in on his story.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "I'm not the fastest guy out there but I will fight as much as anybody else. I'm not going to go there prancing and waving.
"I expect to ski very well. I had the same ambition at the world championships last March and I beat two guys. It's a matter of me making sure it's my perfect run."
Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards represented Great Britain in the 1988 Winter Olympics and finished last in both the 70 metre and 90 metre ski jumping events.
