After a snowy Christmas, with most resorts receiving a big bag of snow from the man in red, we have some new snow arriving in time for the New Year. After three weeks of pretty heavy snowfall you'll be glad to hear there is more sun than snow this week, but there is also a good smattering of snow to keep the slopes topped up.
France, for once, is getting less snow than Alaska this week but still leads the snow forecast predictions for another week. A more modest dusting of snow is expected with ~10cm falling in most resorts across the country. But with resorts already boasting a couple of metres of snow, this week's weather will keep the slopes looking pristine.

Austria is set for a quiet week on the snowfall front. Showers are forecast throughout the week, but the average snowfall predicted is only ~5cm, enough for fresh morning corduroy, but don't expect to be riding powder. Austria has enjoyed a good start to the season, so for a week of festive skiing and partying into the New Year, the slopes are in perfect condition.
- Ischgl 7cm
- Mayrhofen 4cm
- Obergurgl 11cm
- Saalbach 4cm
- St. Anton 7cm
Switzerland is set for similar conditions this week. After the past three weeks of snow, hire a guide if you want to get to the last powder stashes, as the 5-10cm on fresh snow on the forecast will only be enough to keep the pistes looking perfect. With massive snow depths on the upper slopes, piste skiing is at its best over the rest of the festive period.
- Crans Montana 8cm
- Klosters 8cm
- Saas Fee 5cm
- Verbier 7cm
- Zermatt 6cm
Italy, unsurprisingly, is following suit this week. The cold snap is set to continue and with ~10cm forecast in many resorts — expect more sun than snow this week. Perfect for enjoying a relaxing lunch and an afternoon ski.
- Arabba 11cm
- Cervinia 7cm
- La Thuile 8cm
- Livigno 7cm
- Sestriere 9cm
Though the snow has slowed down, the slopes are in great condition. To be honest, it's probably a good thing the snowfall will be calmer this week, as the locals will go stir crazy if it keeps coming — there's only so many times a restaurant owner can dig out his terrace in -20°c! We are definitely enjoying one of the greatest starts to a season in a long time with the perfectly groomed runs offering the best way to bring in 2013.
