Aspen ski resorts to extent seasons after heavy snowfall
Spelling good news for winter sports enthusiasts keen to book a last-minute ski break, it has now been confirmed that the lifts up Aspen Mountain will be running until April 25th, two weeks beyond the initial closing date for the current season.
The decision has come after recent heavy snowfalls, with the Aspen Times having reported that a 54-inch base was recorded at the top of the world-famous mountain this week, with a number of popular slopes all looking good for the next couple of weeks at least.
"We have enough snowpack," Aspen Skiing Co senior vice president David Perry was quoted by the paper as telling resort chiefs this week.
"Even if we start to lose snowpack at the bottom, we've got enough up high."
He added that locals will be able to use their existing ski passes for the duration of the extension, while visitors can enjoy the added time for a small supplement.
The Colorado city is one of the world's most-famous ski resorts, with a number of big-name celebrities, including the likes of Kevin Costner, Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer, owning homes close to the slopes.
