Didier Defago upstaged Swiss team-mates Didier Cuche and Carlo Janka to take the gold in the men's downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The 32-year-old came out on top at Whistler in one of the tightest podium finishes in Olympic history by pipping Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal to the gold by 0.09 seconds through his time of 1:54.51 seconds.
Defago believed that his experience in the bigger competitions was pivotal to his success as he became the oldest athlete to ever take gold in the event.
He said: "I really wanted to go back home with a medal. After three Olympic Games and a lot of championships I think my experience made the difference.
"It's not easy when you set the bar really high at a big event only not to achieve your goal, so I am just overjoyed."
Bode Miller was among those to be first onto the piste and he claimed the bronze, with the highly-fancied Cuche only good enough for sixth and Janka had to settle for a spot outside of the top ten in 11th.
