First Day Of Winter Has Arrived In Europe

First Day Of Winter Has Arrived In Europe

As the sun sets on another winter for our southern hemisphere friends, it is the dawning of bright and white new season in Europe with some fresh snowfall already recorded across the alps and heavy snow expected before the weekend.

Switzerland was the hot topic this weekend as Swiss glaciers in Saas Fee and Zermatt both had their first taste of the white gold with 10cm of fresh snowfall topping up the 107cm recorded in Saas Fee and 140cm in Zermatt.

Update: Zermatt had a heavy fall of snow last night and boasted temperatures below freezing, 11cm of more snow is expected today and a further 16cm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the team in France are also getting in on the action with up to 25cm snow falling over the next 48 hours down to 1400m, with Austria anticipating a healthy 40cm.

Early signs indicate it’s going to be an awesome start to the season. Keep checking Iglu Ski Facebook and Twitter for regular snow updates around the globe!
