Ski holidays in Val D'Isere
have been praised in a newspaper travel awards, with readers of the Telegraph naming the French resort the best in the world.
The Telegraph Travel Awards 2007 produced a top three in the Best Ski Resort category, with readers of the Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph voting across a range of other categories too.
Val D'Isere was followed in second place by ski holidays in Meribel
, another French resort. Located in the centre of Les 3 Vallees, Meribel and neighbours Courchevel and Val Thorens have been popular for a long time.
In third position in the Best Ski Resort rankings were ski holidays in Whistler
. The resort boasts the most terrain of any ski location in North America.
The newspaper also noticed a change in the popularity of certain resorts since the awards began almost a decade ago.
"In 1998, the US resorts of Vail and Breckenridge were firm fixtures in your top five. Today, not one US resort makes the shortlist."
Whistler opened in mid-November this year and Val d'Isere welcomed skiers from December 1st. Meribel's season is due to start on Saturday December 8th.
