Chemmy Alcott produced a gutsy display as she battled through a stomach bug to claim a promising 11th place finish in the World Cup giant slalom in Sweden.
The 27-year-old British number one built on her season's best finish of 15th, at Lake Louise in the super G, by closing in on the top ten at Are on December 12th.
She finished two seconds adrift of race winner Tessa Worley on the most recent leg of the World Cup tour and can take even higher hopes into the next stop in
Val D'Isere, where she will compete in the super G and super combined events.
Alcott said: "I can't believe it, I almost pulled out of the race this morning as I was up for 20 hours before throwing up. It's amazing what you can do when you have to.
"I really struggled to warm up my muscles as every time I moved I kept feeling nauseous and then I threw up in the start gate, which was really embarrassing."
Alcott achieved the best result by a British female skier at the Olympics since 1968 when finishing 11th in the downhill event in Turin in 2006.
