I love this time of year, the Freeze Festival has been and gone, the Warren Miller tour is in full swing and the Alps are slowly becoming covered in an ever thicker and longer coat of snow. As the winter approaches the snow level visibly creeps down the valley, turning white peaks into fully fledged snow covered mountains.
Resorts are opening on an almost daily basis as early snow, super cold temperatures and snow cannons have meant most of Europe and North America's resort are either ready for their first guests or are getting there quickly. The lower resorts may be a little greener, but this coming week's snow forecast should help fix that.
France is set for a reasonable amount of snow over the next few days, but more importantly the freezing level is dropping, meaning the snowmaking facilities and piste bashers will be in full force getting ready for the festive season. The next nine days are looking promising with the forecasts as follows:
- Alpe d'Huez: 23cm
- Avoriaz: 19cm
- Courchevel: 27cm
- Chamonix: 28cm
- Les Plagne: 29cm
- Les Arcs: 30cm
- Meribel: 29cm
- Tignes: 31cm
- Val d'Isere: 34cm
- Val Thorens: 29cm
Switzerland is also looking to top up its already snowy slopes over the next nine days:
- Crans Montana: 27cm
- Davos: 18cm
- Saas Fee: 38cm
- Verbier: 30cm
- Zermatt: 36cm
Italy is also benefitting from next week's snowstorm, with some nice snow forecast figures for November:
- Cervinia: 36cm
- Claviere: 29cm
- Courmayeur: 28cm
- Gressoney: 38cm
- Sestriere: 29cm
Austria is also set for some early snow, with a nice little dusting coming towards the end of next week.
- Hintertux: 15cm
- Ischgl: 16cm
- Obergurgl: 19cm
- Solden: 18cm
- St. Anton: 15cm
With most of the snow arriving a week on Friday, we will have to wait another week to see the benefits, but it's exciting news nonetheless. I'm already dreaming of a white Christmas...
