Canadian skier Jean-Phillipe Roy has been ruled out of the upcoming Winter Olympics after severely injuring his right knee during a recent World Cup event in
Val D'Isere.
The 30-year-old crashed out during his first run when competing in the giant slalom and the diagnosis has suggested that he may have torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
Roy was particularly disappointed as he was pleased by the standard of his current form, but has the dedication to come back from the injury even stronger.
According to the Canadian National Post, he said: "I can walk about on it, but I have no ACL. The season is done for me. Not only is my season over, but also I was skiing the best I've ever skied in my life.
"But, at the same time, it gives me the drive to come back. If I was skiing crappy and blew out my knee, for sure I wouldn't want to come back."
The injury is a greater loss to the Canadian team as it arrives just two weeks after countryman John Kucera broke his leg after a fall at Lake Louise.
Vancouver is the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, with the competition's opening ceremony taking place on February 12th.
