Lord Coe to join Winter Olympic torch relay

Lord Coe to join Winter Olympic torch relay Lord Sebastian Coe is set to join California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in taking part in the final leg of the torch relay to mark the beginning of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The chairman of the London 2012 organising committee will be among the final people to hold the torch as it completes a journey that will have lasted for 106 days and covered 45,000 kilometres.

In total, 12,000 torchbearers will have been used since the relay began in British Columbia in Canada, on October 30th last year.

Lord Coe said: "The torch relay has a significant role in the run up to each Olympic Games.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger famously played 'the Running Man' and, as a running man myself, I look forward to receiving the Olympic Flame from him and representing London 2012 in Vancouver."

The first event to take place in the Winter Olympics at the Whistler course in Vancouver is set to be the qualification round of the ski jumping on February 12th, which is the same day as the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the following day marks the start of events including the men's downhill, women's ice hockey and the men's luge.
