Manuel Osborne-Paradis upset a field including Bode Miller, Didier Cuche and Aksel Lund Svindal to claim a third career World Cup win in the downhill event at Val Gardena.
The 25-year-old Vancouver skier helped bring some joy to an injury-depleted Canadian team when adding to a recent super G victory in Lake Louise by triumphing again in Italy.
Despite a rocky start in the early stages of his run, Osborne-Paradis, who was among the early performers on the Saslong course, recovered with a rapid late burst to finish ahead of Austria's Mario Scheiber, with Johan Clarey of France and Swiss star Ambrosi Hoffmann sharing third.
The result lifts him to fourth in the overall World Cup downhill standings on 118 points, 88 behind leader Cuche.
Osborne-Paradis said: "I didn't actually think I'd be at this press conference following my run.
"I was lucky to get away with what I did. It was easier for me to watch from the bottom except when Scheiber gave me a heart attack."
He had previously finished just outside of the top three in the training run for the event, with Michael Walchhofer posting the quickest time.
