The Givenchy spa at the Hotel Cheval Blanc in Courchevel was named as one of the five best ski spa resorts in article by the Times this week.

Opened in 2006, Courchevel offers the first Givenchy spa in a snow location, with four treatment cabins and a plunge pool.

Its spa features pebbles, wood and water, while after-ski massages are on offer at €170 (£131) a head.

Other skiing spar resorts featured in the article included the Remede Spa and Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, both located in Colorado, US, and the Bergoase and Virgin Touch spas in the Switzerland resorts of Arosa and Verbier respectively.

Ahead of this winter’s skiing season, 11 alpine ski areas in Vermont have invested around $22 million (£12.5 million) in improvements, Times Argus reported last week.

Rhone-Alps 'the jewel in the crown of France's ski regions'
With Vancouver set to host the 2010 Winter Olympics in just a couple of months, many Canadians are already looking to get away for a few weeks, with a significant number likely to look to the guaranteed snowfall and challenging pistes of France for their winter-fix.

Writing in the Toronto Sun, travel expert Ilona Kauremszky advised one such couple that the Rhone-Alps region hasn't gained its reputation as one of the finest skiing and snow-boarding destinations on the planet for nothing.

"The Rhone-Alpes region is by far the jewel in the crown of France's ski regions. No wonder," she wrote.

"The world's largest ski area - imagine six major ski resorts in one place and you get the picture- the area is also heaven for non-skiers as spas and gastronomy are popular."

The Rhone-Alps region has hosted the Winter Olympics on three separate occasions and it boasts excellent transport connections to the major cities of Lyon and Geneva in Switzerland.

Ski resorts open as snowfall continues
The Ski Club of Great Britain reports that five to ten centimetres of snowfall ensured the French ski resorts of Courchevel and Meribel had a particularly good start to the snow sports season.

People planning to take ski holidays in Canada will be glad to hear that temperatures fell as low as minus 40 degrees last weekend, giving Fernie, Revelstoke and Kicking Horse in British Columbia a good start.

The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) recently highlighted the variety that can be found while taking holidays in the country.

According to Susan Iris, vice president of strategic initiatives and 2010 Winter Games at the CTC, "iconic" experiences await visitors to the country thanks to urban cities and cultural attractions.

Visitors from key European markets made 996,876 overnight trips to Canada, figures from CTC recently showed.
