The winners were then invited to participate in the Val Thorens Boarder Week alongside some of the best skiers in the world.

They also received sponsorship for two years from North Face with the ultimate aim of becoming a Pro Rider.

Val Thorens guarantees snow ski holidays in Val Thorens, if it is guaranteed snow they are after.

The ski resort is now guaranteeing powder from December until May as it claims it is "confident in the quality" of its snow cover.

Those familiar with ski holidays in Val Thorens will be aware that 99 per cent of the village - which is the highest resort in Europe - is situated above an altitude of 2,000 metres.

"This is why Val Thorens has created its snow guarantee, unusual in the fact that ... a resort is capable of ensuring one year in advance that at least 70 per cent of its ski lifts will be open [for] over four months," the resort's website claims.

During the 2007-08 ski season, the old Cairn and Caron gondolas were replaced by two new automatic eight-seater gondolas.

Val Thorens reopens from November 22nd 2008 until May 3rd 2009 for winter skiing.

The Festi'Val Tho in Val Thorens ski holiday destination of Val Thorens on March 25th.

Billed as a celebration of snow and the onset of spring, the music event begins with a live performance by Probleme Child, followed by a DJ set complete with competitions and a dance show.

Later in the evening, there will be a giant aperitif and tapas apres-ski event at the nearby Rendez-Vous bar.

All the live music will be performed on a special outdoor stage which has been specially built for the occasion, reports Merinet.com.

Val Thorens is located more than 2,200 metres above sea level and has around 250km of piste.

As well as having plenty of skiing action on offer, the resort also boasts a variety of bars and restaurants, in addition to a cinema, a gym and an indoor swimming pool.

Three Valleys X-Wing Rally 'a success' Val Thorens has been described as a success.

Writing for Valthonet.com, local reporter Debbie Priestley said a host of skiers and snowboarders took part in the competition, which included a variety of events such as freeriding, a parallel slalom and a Big Air bag.

Contestants were able to compete as professionals, amateurs or families.

On arrival, participants were treated to a buffet lunch, while the conclusion of events saw prizes - such as a new set of skis - awarded.

The most recent weather report for the resort suggests there will be snowfalls of up to 19cm over the next few days.

When not taking to the piste, visitors to Val Thorens can catch a film at the local cinema, go for a swim in the indoor pool or buy some souvenirs in the range of shops.
