2013-05-24Whistler turns on guns to get the season started If you're thinking about a ski holiday in Whistler, you'll be delighted to hear that the resort is already getting ready for opening on November 23rd.
"Our guns turn on automatically when the temperature dips to minus two Celsius," said Bob Dufour, Vice President of Mountain Operations.
"Today we're sitting at around minus five Celsius and minus three mid-mountain, optimal temperatures for a quality snow product."

Whistler's record snowfall came in January this year with 15 feet of snow in total.
"Bormio is one of the toughest courses in the World Cup and I think it's good for me on this difficult course to win one of the best races," he told Eurosport.
Walchhofer's win would not have escaped the attention of anyone on a Bormio ski holiday over the festive period as it was the first time a double had occurred in the men's downhill.
Meanwhile, the Austrian is looking forward to the rest of the ski season which he faces with "more self-confidence".

The showdown adopts a pipestyle format, with a series of rails, boxes and spines for the snowboarders to negotiate at the Night Superpipe location on Blackcomb Mountain.
The competition's promotions coordinator, Zoltan Katchanoski, commented: "We had some great feedback about last year's event from the athletes involved. We want to build on last year's success, so we listened to what the riders had to say."
