Ski lovers urged to check small print on travel cover

People planning to go for ski holidays in Canada or across European destinations are being encouraged to read the small print of travel insurance before purchasing cover.

A recent survey from Age Concern showed that three in four British holidaymakers do not check the terms and conditions when obtaining travel insurance and more than half (56 per cent) don't bother to buy cover.

This can have grave repercussions for ski and snowboard holidays, according to the Ski Club of Great Britain, which warned of the huge medical expenses or repatriation to the UK in case of injury.

"Skiers and snowboarders often get caught out when it comes to insurance," explained the club's chief executive Caroline Stuart Taylor, who added that buying cover "is often not enough".

"The Ski Club urges people to check that they are covered for winter sports and that they read the small print to ensure all activities they will be participating in are covered," she advised.

Canada is preparing to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, which will help people discover more about the country, according to the Canadian Tourism Commission.
