Skiers advised to 'take a guide when skiing off piste'
However, Post Office is advising such skiers to take a few precautions before leaving the groomed runs.
Noting the "excellent conditions" to be had on European and North America ski holidays, Post Office has suggested that skiers check the small print of their insurance policies to check they are covered before heading off piste.
"This year the conditions are very good. Many people enjoy the challenge of skiing or boarding off-piste but most travel insurance policies require the policyholder to be accompanied by a qualified guide or instructor when going off-piste," commented Post Office Head of Travel Services Helen Warburton.
Other tips for off piste skiers include being aware of avalanche-risks, due to heavy snowfalls and high winds.
Skiers are also advised to be wary of hidden dangers underneath the deep snow.
