Snow Arriving In Time For Resort Openings

Snow Arriving In Time For Resort Openings

The past two or three days have seen a great amount of snow falling across the Alps and North America, leaving many resorts developing that winter wonderland feeling — snow topped roofs, glistening white trees and Christmas decorations galore.

Over the weekend we are expecting a light dusting across the Alps with temperatures really plummeting to around -20°c and freezing level dropping to 400m. Early next week brings more good news, as a big dump is expected with anything from 30cm to 1m forecast — winter really has arrived.

France is forecast an epic week of snowfall. The weekend is showing a couple of centimetres of fresh snow followed by some serious pow arriving during the week. La Clusaz is set for 104cm of pure powder over the next week, yes 104cm!

Italy is enjoying a great start to the winter, boasting some incredible early season snowfall and this week's forecast is looking positive too. The figures may be lower than France and Switzerland, but with forecasts from 13cm to 68cm, it looks pretty good for the Dolomites and Milky Way.

December arrives tomorrow and winter is well and truly here. There's snow falling everywhere, people are departing on their first skiing trips of the season and it's almost Christmas. Time to pack my bags, get out of the office freezer and head back to the mountains.
