Snow News is Good News

There has definitely been a running theme over the past six Mondays and I'm pleased to continue it. Once again we are expecting in excess of 50cm of snow in a vast array of resorts, with Austria this week taking the plaudits and Whistler is sticking up two fingers at last winter with a mammoth 122cm after a bumper November.

With the season finally under way it a great to see more snow arriving and with Iglu's experts visiting a variety of resorts over the next two weeks to refresh or top-up our knowledge the snow is more than welcome. If there's ever been a good year for an early season trip, this is it.

Having seen Europe covered in a blanket of snow over the past weeks Austria may have enjoyed the snowstorms but was falling behind France and Switzerland in terms of snowfall. That was until this week, whether the family resorts of Alpbach and Ellmau are up your street or if you prefer the party towns of Saalbach and Ischgl, they are all expecting upwards of 50cm this week. Kitzbuhel, Zell Am See and Soll are also boasting superb snowfall.

Avoriaz, Chamonix, Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez may be opposite ends of the French Alps, with the former in the Haute-Savoie and the latter two in France's southern Alps but they are continuing a cracking starts to the season with between 40-50cm on snowfall this week. British favourites Val d'Isere, Meribel and La Plagne are not far behind, with 23, 30 & 32cm of snowfall respectively due this week.

Switzerland is also enjoying the same fantastic conditions in Austria and France with Davos set for 47cm of snow, Flims-Laax expecting 42cm and the powder hound resort of Engelberg also boasting 40cm+ of fresh pow.

As mentioned Whistler is again showing off with 1.2 meters, yes meters, expected this week. Other North American resorts are expecting a dusting in comparison, with Steamboat forecasted 29cm, Jackson Hole 27cm and Kimberly 26cm.
