Snow Report | 16 Jan 2015
Update: 17 Jan - Winter is back!

There's already been over 30cm of fresh snow in ski resorts in France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Here's some of our favourite photos from Twitter this morning:

16 Jan - Big snowfall is coming

It’s been a snow-dry January for most resorts so far but that is all set to change this weekend.

Earlier this week we reported on conditions in the mountains after a small snowfall last weekend which slightly improved the ski conditions. View 13th Jan Snow Report.

Now a big change is on the way as temperatures start to go down – and stay down. The best of the snow fall is expected in Italy, with up to 90cm predicted over the next 3 days.

France

Great news for everyone heading out to France this weekend, lots of snow is expected! Over 45cm is predicted in La Clusaz, Les 2 Alpes and Alpe d’Huez. 40cm in Morzine and Avoriaz. With Courchevel, Megeve, Meribel, Flaine and Chamonix expecting to receive over 30 cm of fresh snow.

Its already been snowing in Avoriaz from 7:30 am on Friday

Austria

Heavy snowfalls are predicted to move in from the west. 20-50cm of snow should be coming in, possibly favouring locations in Tirol, including Solden and Stubai with 50cm, Kaunertal with 32cm and Ischgl, St Anton, Mayrhofen and Lech hoping for over 25cm.

Italy

If you are looking to go somewhere last minute – Italy will be your powder haven! Being right in the firing line of this dump of snow coming to Europe, resorts are expecting 50cm + potentially with up to a metre of pow in some lucky places!

Switzerland

Snow in the Swiss Alps is looking very similar to Austria with between 30-50cm is likely in most ski areas. The best of the snow should be in St Moritz and the up to 40cm in Saas Fee and Zermatt, and then 30 cm in other resorts in Graubünden including Davos, Arosa Lenzerheide and Vals.

Snowfall on Saturday 12am
