After record snowfall through the winter, with perfect sunshine and blue skies for the last week or so, what can we expect through the second half of the season? Well, more snow, of course.
This weekend and early next week, we're going to see some more fantastic snow across the Alps. Austrian resorts will start seeing early dustings on Saturday, with 5cm or so expected in the likes of Ischgl (see right) and St Anton. However, these will quickly turn into hefty falls through Sunday and Monday, where skiers will be enjoying well over 20cm of fresh powder.
It's a similar story elsewhere in the Alps. French resorts will see up to 20cm in the likes of La Rosiere and La Plagne, whilst Swiss resorts such as Saas Fee and St Moritz may see up to 30cm. Italian resorts like Livigno and Cervinia are also expecting up to 30cm.
Here's a quick breakdown of the levels of snow currently on offer:
France
Chamonix still has an incredible 4 metres on top. In the Three Valley area — Courchevel has 187cm, in the Paradiski area — La Plagne has 265cm, whilst in the Porte Du Soliel — Avoriaz is enjoying 270cm!
Austria
St Anton comes in at 430cm, Mayrhofen 210cm & Solden 292cm.
Switzerland
Crans Montana has 365cm, Saas Fee 324cm & Verbier 250cm.
Italy
Cerinia 240cm Passo Tonale 330cm & finally Sestriere 120cm.
Meanwhile, over the pond, Breckenridge boasts nearly 2 metres on top slopes, Jackson Hole has over two metres and Timberline now has over 4 metres!
It's great news to kick off March, as we look forward to Easter and the rest of the season. If overall snow records aren't broken by the end of this season, this snowman will eat its hat.
