Vail Resorts has announced the acquisition of Northstar-at-Tahoe in California, adding to their already impressive line-up of resorts. The resort was previously owned by former Liverpool Football Cub co-owner George Gillet, though his company Booth Creek Ski Holdings Inc.
Vail Resorts are know for their strong presence in Colorado, operating the resorts of Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek and Keystone and over recent years have expanded throughout the USA. The company expanded into California with the acquisition of Heavenly Mountain resort, on the south shore of Lake Tahoe and the Northstar will complement there presence around Lake Tahoe.
Vail Resorts chairman and chief executive officer said "We are thrilled by the opportunity to bring Northstar-at-Tahoe into our family of world-class mountain resorts. With substantial and diverse ski terrain, a completely renovated and modern base village and outstanding guest service, Northstar-at-Tahoe has been one of the fastest growing mountain resorts over the past few years... We believe guests of Heavenly and Northstar will greatly appreciate the flexibility to enjoy both the north and south shores of Lake Tahoe as we introduce pass and lift tickets products that offer access to both resorts starting with this coming 2010-2011 ski season."
Northstar-at-Tahoe was the original site of the Burton Stash, which has now spread to five resorts including Avoriaz in France. The resort offers a new base village area that hosts 35 shops and restaurants, an ice-skating rink and onsite accommodation. The resorts offer a fantastic variety of skiing across 3,000 acres, including seven snowparks, 92 trails and 19 lifts.
