Weekend Snow Forecast

Weekend Snow Forecast

It may be bonfire night tomorrow, but the in the Alps locals will be celebrating the huge dump of snow, as opposed to celebrating a failed attempt at blowing up our government.

Switzerland has been benefitting from decent snowfall over the past couple of weeks, but this weekend sees the start of some heavy snowfall with Saas Fee expecting a huge 81cm of snow by the beginning of next week. It is also puking in Zermatt and the neighbouring Italian resort of Cervinia, where the forecast is 69cm & 61cm respectively.

The same snowstorm seems to be hitting the more southern French resorts of Risoul & Vars forecast in excess of 60cm, Isola expecting 34 cm and La Grave boasting 27cm of its famous, yet sometimes deadly, powder. Heading up to the Tarantaise, British skiers favourite valley, Val d'Isere, Tignes and Val Thorens are all set to benefit from around 30cm of fresh snow, there is also a lighter dusting expected in Les Arcs, La Plagne, St. Foy and La Rosiere.

Italy is also set for some fantastic snowfall over the coming days with Gressoney trumping the aforementioned Cervinia, with a whopping dump of 81cm. The Dolomites are also expecting a fresh layer of snow over the weekend, with Arabba, Selva & Sestriere all set for around 10cm.

Those greedy British Columbians are still trying to keep all the white stuff to themselves and Whistler is set for another awesome weekend of snow, with 61cm on the horizon. The freeride Mecca of Revelstoke is beginning to pick up some snow too, with 12cm falling and Kicking Horse will benefit from a 17cm dusting.

The US is also kicking into gear over the weekend with 20-30cm forecast throughout the Colorado resorts of Aspen, Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, Steamboat and Telluride. There is also lighter snowfall expected in Jackson Hole, Heavenly, Squaw Valley and Copper Mountain.

The snow has started falling for the weekend and conditions are set to improve, in terms of more snowfall, and with the freezing level beginning to drop we should be looking at a superb start to the season!
