Ski trip march 19- 26 2011 12/05/2011
We come from the Netherlands and stayed for a week at the Hotel Beau Soleil. We were there with a group of eight adults. Age between 22 - 56. For me and my husband it was the first ski holiday ever. It is a nice hotel, nice rooms, good breakfast, good dinner (a lot of pork meat). It is a hotel that has its focus on school trips. There mission is making ski trips affordable so they continue to exist. The children make a lot of noise. They go to bed early so you can have a quiet evening and a nice sleep. The weather was very hot for the time of the year, so the snow wasn't as good as it supposed to be. In the morning there was a lot of ice and in the afternoon the snow was slushy. For us snowboarding beginners the slushy snow wasn't a problem. The area of Alpe d'Huez is very nice. There is a piste for everyone and it’s wide spread. There is a nice kids area and a lot of good places to eat. The hotel Beau Soleil services for lunch a daily fresh soup that tastes very good. The downside of having lunch at Beau Soleil is that they only service lunch until 2 o'clock. There are some good shopping areas, especially the supermarket Sherpa. They sell biological products and the owners are very nice and helpful. Because we went by car it was easy for us to drive to Les deux Alpes. It is only a one hour drive. The snow there was a little bit better. We didn't do après skiing.

Alpe d'Huez was a great choice of resort - if there had been more snow there would have been a good choice of beginners runs and up higher there is sufficient to keep more expert skiers happy. Plenty to do in the afternoons too if you are not skiing - ice skating, golf, overhaead assault course, louge, swimming... great fun. Had an ESF instructor who was great - and from other feedback ESF seem to be universally good in A d'H. We'll definately go back there next year...

Iglu booking staff helpful and process convenitent.

snowboarding trip march 19th-26th 09/04/2011
Alpe d'Huez is a great place to pick up/improve snowboarding ! The snow park is quite low down the mountain and very wide with plenty of jumps, boxes and rails to play on.

There are loads of nice blue and red runs to build up confidence on and then the black runs at the top of the mountain are some of the best (scenic, challenging and some daunting) that i've seen.

It was a bit late in the season so some snow got slushy lower down towards the end of the day but didn't detract from the experience.

Also took a helicopter ride to and from a neighbouring resort (Les Deux Alps) which had a great half pipe and day bar, only cost £65 too.

Did parapetting too, really cool gliding round over the resort on a snowboard :)

Night life's good, and plenty of decent places for food. There is an ice rink and an outdoor swimming pool (enforced speedo only rule :s ) but didn't get round to them.

I went snowboarding to Alpe D' Huez for first time at the end of Jan 09. The first day snow was excellent; it had just finished dumping so all was very fresh. This is a brilliant resort if it is snowing a lot and it has tons of runs. It only snowed the one day so some of the slopes got icy towards middle/end of the week but it was still very enjoyable. Pros - everything is easy to access. Ski School was very good. It was my friends first time ever on the slopes and they did snowboarding, 1-1/2hrs in lessons and he was well on his way. The beer was pretty reasonable to be honest. However water costs almost same as beer! There are loads of Long runs, beautiful scenery and it is a huge resort with very friendly people. It is definitely worth going to. Cons - Some Pistes did get allot of Moguls, but only in sections. A lively Apres ski atmosphere didn't seem to exist and it lacked that buzz and vibrancy. This may only be due to time of year however.
