Excellent family holiday. 8 adults aged from 21 to 72 and 4 kids from 5 to 13. Stayed all together in the bottom two floors of the chalet - upstairs was a smaller chalet with another group but didn't see much of them so pretty much place to ourselves.

Chalet host was really good and rustled up some great food. Even on the last day when our flight was delayed for 12 hours and we stayed in the chalet while new guests were due to arrive, making it difficult for the staff, they managed to look after us and make a pleasant enough last few hours.

Lessons - the two youngest kids (5 and 7) took 3 full days of lessons and seemed to get on great. A bit of a different set up from the French resorts of 6 half days but just as good meaning we could take them out for the full day in the second part of the week. Snowboarding group lessons were a problem though, something we were hoping to get but nowhere seemed to accomodate this and we had to settle for expensive single ones which wasn't ideal. Reps seemed surprised we couldn't get these and weren't much use to be honest.

That said the terrain and snow was pretty good. Split into three distinct areas, the more advanced can get between all three using the links and traverses which isn't too bad but tiring and a bit tricky for beginners at times. Best is up on the glacier, if open. Closed on two days due to high winds, it was heaven when open with the best snow on the mountain.

Lastly, the village itself and, of course, the views of the Matterhorn, are some of the best around.

I stayed in Aeschhorn A chalet in January and it was a brilliant week's holiday. We booked the whole chalet as a group of 12 people - 8 adults and 4 children - and it suited us perfectly. The chalet was comfortable and clean, the food lovely and our host was very accommodating and good fun. The town of Zermatt is gorgeous and quaint. The skiing and snowboarding was fab as well and found that there was excellent skiing for all the different levels in our group. We were also lucky enough to get some fresh snow while we were there which was even better!
