When I retire i'm going finish my knees off here in Lech. The restaurant at the top of the chairlift in Zug I think might have the best views of any restaurant I've been to. The best thing about Lech though is access to powder... there's so much space there's no way everyone can track out Lech after a dump of snow. I know some hidden spots but I'm not telling you where they are :-)

It's a chilled out resort with more chatting rather than jumping and shouting. As all Austrian resorts, service is fantastic and you're surrounded by Austrian culture. If you have a few quid then luxury hotels are in abundance in Lech. If you want something affordable the Sonneck just outside Lech or chalet hotel Mont Fort. The Alberg is huge ski area, if you want to let off some steam then the steep stuff in St Anton way... I can't wait to go back.

Despite the weather we had a great week. The staff could not have been more helpful, cheerful and the food was brilliant. Hang on to that chef. The accommodation was very comfortable and our room, number 14, was huge with balcony and bath/shower excellent. Two main faults: No wi-fi in the rooms, Skyping in the lounge was a bit embarrassing, please turn up the temperature of the indoor swimming pool, it was freezing but I believe it was an issue with the owners. Amy you were great.

Although the Sonneck is quite far outside the main village, the very regular free bus service makes it almost as convenient as staying in the village centre. Our bedroom was very spacious and comfortable, with wonderful views down the valley and a small sunny balcony. There was a sitting room area with an open fire but it was open plan and felt a bit like sitting in Reception, rather than being a separate room. There is a small bar area and a large dining room, leading to an outside balcony where we often had our afternoon tea, sitting in the sun.

Lech is an attractive resort with a nice atmosphere to the village. Skiing is quite varied as it links easily to Zurs and, by bus, to St Anton and other villages.

My wife and I visited Lech in February 2011. I'm a snowboarder, she's a skier.

Upon arrival at the airport in Austria we were greeted by a number of Ski Total reps who told us which coach to go on, whereby we were met by another rep who told us all about the resort and our accomodation during the 90 minutes or so drive to the resort. Great so far.

The approach into Lech is very pretty - lots of typical Tirolean buildings and some beautiful hotels. The Sonneck is at the far end of the resort.

We arrived at the Sonneck and were met by a bunch of smiling faces who carried all our bags in for us and gave us a great welcome.

Our room was on the top floor, which was a bit of a struggle after a long day of skiing, although that's more due to a lack of fitness than anything else! It was a typical chalet room - lots of wooden furniture and was always spotless. I'd read other reviews about the ensuite being tiny in the two rooms on the top floor. I'm not sure what they expected - it had a shower, a toilet, a sink and plenty of room to dry yourself, what more do you need?! It was no smaller than any other ensuites we've had.

Each day then followed the same routine. In the morning you would go down for breakfast, where there is a choice of cereals, fruit, cold meats, hot and cold drinks, then a choice of hot options that are cooked to order. Delicious.

Then it's time to hit the slopes. Simply walk the 50 metres to the ski bus stop and catch the 10 minute ski bus down to the lifts. The buses run exactly on time every 10 minutes through the day and are free to use with stops about every 200 metres, so you're never far from a stop. At night they are less frequent and cost 3 Euros per person, but that's hardly the end of the world.

Once on the slopes, Lech is an intermediates' paradise. There are lots of blue and red cruisers, all linked by a super-efficient lift network. Considering we were there in February, we queued for a maximum of 2 minutes all holiday. Most lifts you just ski straight onto, and a few of them are heated too, which is nice! The off-piste was more suited to advanced skiers, as it was proper off-piste as opposed to skiing in powder between a couple of pistes. On-piste was just great fun, nice and fast as nothing was too difficult (unless you chose to do the black runs). There were also a number of ski tracks, which are basically like ungroomed marked pistes. These would be amazing after fresh snow.

On 3 or 4 days we had the option of ski guiding with the hotel reps, where they would take you on all the best runs in and around Lech. We highly recommend doing that as you get to see lots of the skiing area that you'd probably never see.

The mountain restaurants are slightly limited, but are easy enough to find and are similar prices to the rest of the alps. The restaurants in the village can be a bit pricey, so it makes more sense to eat on the mountain.

After a hard day's skiing you have the choice of hitting a few bars, which are limited in numbers and not too lively, or heading back to the hotel for afternoon tea and the most delicious cakes you are ever likely to taste. Guess what we did...

After cakes we'd have a quick swim and a sauna, then get ready for dinner (which you choose the night before).

Before dinner everyone meets in the bar for aperitifs, a different one each night, and then into the dining area where you sit on tables of 8 or 10 for a delicious meal. Each meal was three courses, with a vegetarian option each night. The food was really nice - you wouldn't be disappointed to get similar quality in a nice restaurant back home.

Then it was a few more drinks before going off to bed to get ready for another hard day on the slopes!

Should you want a day off the slopes, there are some beautiful walks around the resort (take your camera) and plenty of shops, although the shops are horrendously expensive (as in 750 Euros for a pair of designer shoes) with little choice for those of us who are yet to make our first million!

All in all, Lech is a fantastic resort and the Chalet Hotel Sonneck is a fantastic place to stay. If you're a group of 18 year olds then go to St Anton instead, if you're a couple or a group of people aged 30+ then Lech is perfect. It's not cheap, but it's no more expensive than most French resorts, and the skiing area is great. We will definitely be back!

For Christmas 2010, I decided to escape the UK and head off for snow holiday. Following a call to Igluski, I was offered a number of options and the top of the list was Lech.

Having previously stay in very good Catered Chalets, the Chalet Hotel was pleasant alternative. The the team at the Sonneck, led by Hotel Manager Amie, made you feel at home from the moment you arrived. The range and quality of the food exceeded my expectations and the level of cleanliness in the hotel was very high.

At first I found the resort of Lech slightly limiting, but as the week went on and through a bit of planning / understanding the bus network, I found the area to be large enough to explore over 7 days, especially when venturing in to St. Anton.

Overall I had a great Christmas Break in Lech and would definitely look to book a ski holiday through Igluski.
