Nice Hotel with a lot more than snow sports on offer. - 29/03/2022
Overall

I really enjoyed a week at Serre Chevalier in ClubMed. I am an intermediate skier and like to take it a bit easy. My friends ski all day long with a lot of variety, so this resort was good that I could return to base whilst they went on further, as all inclusive I could relax with a meal and then use the pool and do a stretching class. The food is good. There is a lot of choice and options at meal times. I particularly enjoyed the endless supplies of fresh bread, wide cheese selection on offer (I like the goats one). Always a lot of beautiful fresh salad and freash fruit. Some other review sites say it is too French. I would argue that you are in France so yes, it is French cuisine and it is nice. Some brilliant pastries and if you like seafood, fish and meat you will be happy. I think there must be at least 12 different meal options. It is also not long until another snack, or meal is provided anyway. They even have paper bags for takeaway option. The Sun Terrace by the bar and Restaurant balcony above, both overlook the mountains with beautiful sunny views. Ideal for a vit D boost. You can do fitness classes, I really enjoyed aqua aerobics as it massaged my achy muscles and the cute guy made me laugh throughout the class. It really lifted my mood. Stretching classes were brilliant too, both offered daily. I paid for a massage which was a nice touch. The resort is nice. I loved walking about the old towns that are clustered nearby. I also went walking into the opposite hills which is quiet and tranquil. The ski lifts are a little older but fine. A few tows on easy green slopes, but apart from them being tiring on the legs (the button lifts) the greens were empty and a real joy for me to progress my turns. I didn't get on too brilliantly at ski school. I found it far too fast for my liking, starting off with too many people in each group. If money were no object I would pay private tuition, but as it was already included in the cost I didnt want to pay again. For me, this is the only area I could fault. I don't know if you can holiday at ClubMed without the ski lessons included. I might have been unlucky and put in the wrong groups. In future holidays I wouldn't want the group lessons as it put me off going so fast without really being shown anything. If you are a really good skier, I think the guide approach worked well for my friends as they like to do as much skiing as possible. For me, I like the more gentle approach. There is a nursery slope for kids and complete beginners directly outside the hotel which is fab for newbies. Ski Hire shop is excellent, brilliant staff in there, super attentive and fun. Reception staff outstandingly good. Room cleaned every day, lots of storage space. Its a nice size for 2. I think 4 sharing would be tight but okay. We really all enjoyed the live band. They made it a really special place to hang out. They played every day. Later at night lots of entertainment on offer for all different ages different things going on shows with kids club, disco for adults. Endless drinks if you like that. Transfer was brilliant to and from airport. I recommend Turin as its only 1.5 hrs away. My only suggestion might be who to contact if any issue getting to resort as my car broke down on way to airport in U.K. I thought holiday was over, but got a lift in time for flight. Had I missed my flight I'm not sure who I would call to tell them I'm not going to make it. Iglu were easy to contact and arranged flights from one airport for me, and another airport my friend. That was tricky but we got there in the end. I am glad I tried Club Med. It was expensive but as a solo traveller I didn't mind that. I don't think I could take a family of 4, but if I did I know my kids would love it and be happy. It would be soooo expensive though compared with other options. If you have enough money I think Club Med, probably with room upgrades for more space would give you a good holiday experience with kids entertained and catered for so you can get on with skiing, or relaxing!

Excellent hotel, great service - 01/03/2022
Overall

I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, it was amazingly well organised, very friendly and everything you needed was there for the whole family. IGLU and Club Med were excellent so no issues there at all. The only single downside is that the ski in ski out lift was not the most connected to the rest of the resort, but this is likely to change very soon.

Serre Chevalier a tree lined resort in France - 20/04/2016
Overall

If you're looking for a French resort not on every ones agenda try a visit to Serre Chevalier. The Club Med there is Ski in Ski Out, the beginners slopes are next to the Club Med. The hotel has a large pool to enjoy after a hard days skiing which I did on many occasions which has some lovely views. The bar area has a sun terrace with nice comfy sofas and chairs. Club Med offers a great choice in food for all meals. There is a nice long run back to the resort from the top of the Vallons lift. The lifts are not the quickest in but this does give you more time to enjoy the views plus there are a few more drag lifts then other resorts. The resort itself has plenty off tree lined skiing and loads of off piste skiing available. The piste runs offer lots of variety for all levels. The town does not have much night life but has a few bars the Frog being the busiest but there are enough places to enjoy for a evening visit. The mountain has some great hidden restaurants to unwind during the day. Also the transfer from Turin is short. Would I go back again of course I would.

The accommodation was really nice, the food excellent and service extremely friendly. My advice is to ski hard to burn off the calories from the food which is irresistible. Kids will love the location as it really is doorstep skiing and a relatively gently run in. The lift access via the bubble works very well and the beginners slope is adjacent to the accommodation. We had a fantastic family holiday here!
