La Roina 02/01/2012
First trip to Livingno in March 2011. As with one of the other reviews room wasn't ready on arrival so lots of hanging about when all you really want to do is get unpacked. Accommodation was nice but location just okay. Long walk to lifts/village once the buses stop. Ski in/out not so easy if you're a boarder but it can be done. Board park in your back garden is a nice bonus, especially on heavy snow days. Great places to eat with beautiful food at good prices but after evening meal apres ski is so quiet as to be a bit tragic! Mountain is great with efficient lifts and good grooming. Snow was excellent the week I was there. The down side or THE DOWN SIDE is the superlong transfer from Innsbruck which is even worse on the return leg. Gah!

Sketchy Thirtysomething Snowboarder
Review 27/02/2010
Just returned from Livigno. We had a fantastic week with some of the best snow conditions ever. The apartment was great and once we'd worked out a ski-out, ski-in route we didn't need to take the ski bus (as long as you don't mind a black mogul journey home!) I went with my 'children' (19 and 8). Hadn't booked ski school but in the end my 8 year old opted for lessons and had a great time, much less regimented than French ski school. The boarder zoo is a must (we were on blades) and the American Park just outside the apartments was great fun - if a little painful! All in all a great place for all ages, and the 5 hour transfer is worth it once you are there!

Don't bother with France 09/04/2011
This was my second visit to Livigno but the first time I have stayed at La Roina apartments. My group were initially unimpresed as our rooms were not ready upon arrival as they required cleaning. We had to leave our luggage in the ski boot room which we were all a little concerned about security.

Once our apartment was ready though we were very impressed, the decor was a little strange but the quality of the fixtures, fittings and electrical appliances were top quality. The room was spacious, clean and the shower was fantastically powerful, what else do you need when sking. My only criticism of the accomadation would be the trecherous sheet ice outside the apartment that really should have been cleared by the owners.

The accommodation is located at the far end of the main strip that runs the length of the resort and is approx a 20 minute walk into town. Most of the time we used the very efficient free bus service but the don't run after 8pm so it's either a fair walk or taxi. Restaurants in resort all seem to offer reasonably priced, good quality food but what else would you expect from Italians! Try the Bellavista restaurant, very friendly and fantastic food.

Don't be fooled by the tax free status of Livigno, as most things are no cheaper than UK prices, except cigarettes and alcohol which are dirt cheap. A bottle of Jim Beam whisky will set you back just over £5!

There were no issues with the slopes or lifts, which seemed to be well managed. Avoid the restaurants up the mountain which are very expensive and incredibly crowded at lunchtime. You are much better off making your way down the mountain and eating there for cheaper and better quality grub. Après Ski was ok but the nightlife when we went was very quiet and the resorts only nightclub was empty. I think this may have been due to the economic situation in the UK which had deterred many Brits.

Having been to Italy and Austria I don't really know why anyone would bother with France, it's over priced and nowhere near as good as Italy for food.
